Jewish dance covers a wide spectrum
from ancient tradition to modern expression as a form of worship. Some
may dance as joyful expressions during religious occasions while others
delight in expressing their ethnicity. Jewish dance, whether it is
traditional Israeli folkdance or newly choreographed, has been a part of
the Jewish culture throughout the ages.
As the Zionist pioneers (Halutzim) immigrated, they restored Jewish dance to the land of Israel. Interestingly, gentiles also began to rejoice that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was fulfilling His promises to His Jewish people and Land. One way this is being demonstrated is by having Jewish dance incorporated into worship and praise services.
Christian dance is diverse, including dancing in the Spirit and liturgical dance. Significantly, Davidic dance - based on Israeli folkdances- has played a major role in this new phenomenon. Many gentiles are borrowing steps and music from traditionally Jewish sources and adding it to their repertoires.
On that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David that has fallen, and repair its breaches; and I will raise up its ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old...Amos 9:11
Many gentiles, who call on the name of the God of Israel, realize and repent of the past horrendous atrocities perpetrated on the Jewish people, and are also acknowledging the biblical origin of the Christian faith.
As Israel is strengthened by the economic, political and prayerful support of Christians, the Christians are likewise being blessed as they return to the roots of their belief system which is biblical Judaism. Jewish dancing is an outgrowth of this.
And He said it is to small a thing that you should be My Servant, to raise up the tribes of Jacob and restore the preserved ones of Israel. I will also give You as a light to the nations and that My salvation may be to the end of the earth. Isaiah 49:6
Moriah Ministries strives to play a small role in uniting the Jewish people with all who call on the name of the God of Israel. One of our endeavors is to promote Davidic Dance throughout the world. Our purpose is not only a way to worship the One who is like no other, but also to assist gentiles in recognizing the debt of gratitude owed to His Jewish people. Perhaps one day people of both faiths will work side-by-side to promote Tikkun Olam (Healing the world).
